Islamabad, November 9, 2025<\/strong> \u2014 Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja<\/strong>, announced on Saturday that Google<\/a> has completed its registration in Pakistan<\/strong> and will soon be establishing a local office, marking a major milestone in the country\u2019s growing technology sector.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press conference, the minister revealed that manufacturing of Google Chromebooks has officially commenced in Haripur<\/strong>, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. \u201cAround 500,000 to 600,000 Google Chromebooks will be manufactured annually<\/strong> in Pakistan,\u201d she said, adding that this development would pave the way for technology transfer, adoption of global best practices, and the creation of direct employment opportunities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur target is to export these Chromebooks from Pakistan, following which we will further extend and expand this assembly line,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The Chromebook assembly line<\/strong> was launched on November 4<\/strong> through a collaboration between Google for Education\u2019s local partner Tech Valley<\/strong>, the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC)<\/strong>, and Australia-based Allied<\/strong>, with operations based in Haripur.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif<\/strong> had lauded the initiative, stating that local assembly of IT products like Chromebooks would not only reduce costs for consumers<\/strong> but also strengthen Pakistan\u2019s foreign exchange reserves<\/strong> by fostering an export-oriented tech sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Shaza Fatima further disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)<\/strong> has been finalised between Google and the Ministry of IT<\/strong>, under which youth will receive advanced technology training<\/strong>, particularly in Artificial Intelligence (AI)<\/strong>. Discussions are also underway to establish AI laboratories<\/strong> in Pakistan with Google\u2019s support.<\/p>\n

The minister also highlighted progress in discussions with other global tech firms. She announced that Meta\u2019s Llama AI platform has been launched in Urdu<\/strong>, making Pakistan one of the few countries to have access to the localised version. \u201cThe availability of Meta\u2019s Llama AI platform in Urdu reflects the strong engagement we\u2019ve had with Meta,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Additionally, TikTok\u2019s STEM feed<\/strong> \u2014 a dedicated section for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics content \u2014 has been made available in Pakistan. \u201cThrough this feed, people in Pakistan can access free educational content, turning TikTok into a platform for positive and productive use,\u201d Shaza noted.<\/p>\n

In another key development, the minister revealed that Go Telecom<\/strong>, a Saudi Arabian company, has established a presence in Pakistan<\/strong> by launching an AI Hub<\/strong> \u2014 an online platform connecting Saudi companies seeking tech services with Pakistani firms.<\/p>\n

\u201cPakistani freelancers and small tech companies can now access Saudi markets remotely without needing physical offices there. This initiative will generate employment<\/strong>, boost exports<\/strong>, and open new business opportunities<\/strong>,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
