Islamabad (Dec 18, 2024):<\/em> The Asian Development Bank (ADB)<\/a> and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP)<\/a> jointly hosted a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on December 17-18, 2024, aimed at enhancing gender diversity within Non-Banking Microfinance Companies (NBMFCs).<\/p>\n

The workshop was attended by representatives from all SECP-regulated NBMFCs and focused on promoting gender inclusivity within organizational structures while enhancing services for women, who make up over 70% of the sector\u2019s clientele.<\/p>\n

Participants were trained to identify gender biases, implement inclusive policies, and develop financial products tailored for women, fostering a customer-centric approach. SECP\u2019s Executive Director, Khalida Habib, emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating:<\/p>\n

“This workshop is a step forward in promoting gender diversity in Pakistan\u2019s financial ecosystem, equipping companies to address gender-related challenges and contribute to national goals of inclusion and equity.”<\/em><\/p>\n

ADB\u2019s Deputy Country Director, Asad Aleem, reiterated the bank\u2019s commitment to gender equity<\/a>, adding:<\/p>\n

“Gender diversity is vital for sustainable development. This collaboration reflects our shared vision of inclusive financial systems that empower women and drive economic resilience in Pakistan.”<\/em><\/p>\n

In addition, an exclusive session on consumer protection was held on December 23, 2024. This session focused on the Consumer Protection Framework for NBMFCs and its alignment with the Women Equality in Finance Policy for NBMFCs, recently approved by the SECP. The initiative underscored SECP\u2019s commitment to balancing gender equity with robust consumer safeguards.<\/p>\n

The ToT model is designed for long-term impact, enabling trained participants to educate their colleagues, thereby amplifying the initiative\u2019s reach. The collaboration between ADB and SECP highlights their dedication to empowering women and fostering inclusive growth in Pakistan\u2019s<\/a> financial landscape.<\/p>\n
